Year of Experience 2020

The 2020 stipend of the Christoph Delz Foundation awarded to Rahel Zimmermann (Zurich)

For the ninth time since its establishment, the Christoph Delz Foundation (Basel) has awarded a year’s stipend of CHF 30,000. The jury, made up of Anne Gillot, Felix Baumann und Björn Gottstein, granted the advancement prize to composer Rahel Zimmermann (Zurich). Rahel Zimmermann, born 1988 in Glarus, studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and composition for film, theatre and media at the Zurich University of the Arts. She currently works as a freelance composer and sound artist.

Rahel Zimmermann convinced the jury with her installation works, with which she pursues a decidedly original and conclusive approach. Unusual listening situations, work in different media, architecture, pictorial elements, an intimate handling of sound and the inclusion of the specifics of the site are the outstanding features of her approach. This is particularly true for the proposed project “Am Ort”, in which sounds, public space and empathic listening interact in a special way. With her works, Rahel Zimmermann opens up new avenues for hearing and sound art.

The stipend of the Christoph Delz Foundation is tendered once every three years.
